Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, are the new freshmen successfully transitioning into the high school through connections with the staff and upperclassmen and achievement in their academic pursuits? It examines failure rates, staff to student connectedness, and various school surveys in order to address this question. The project also describes the journey this particular high school has taken to help students successfully transition into the high school and then explains what programs and practices are currently in place. The motivating factor for this capstone was the realization of how many of the author's own ninth grade students were struggling to be successful. The overall findings show that most of the new students are adjusting well to the high school setting, but there is still a small segment that needs more academic and social support.
