Abstract
The research question addressed is what are some effective nonfiction reading strategies for third graders? Some motivating factors for this capstone was the desire to improve nonfiction reading comprehension and prepare third graders for a world of nonfiction reading. This capstone details a variety of nonfiction reading strategies recommended by many experts such as Hoyt. The strategies were implemented in a third grade classroom over a three week period. Through my research, I have been able to determine that nonfiction reading strategies are important to teach to third grade students. I will continue to strive to improve reading comprehension for my students. My research findings have positive implications for all educators wanting to improve students' reading comprehension.
