Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, in what ways would a guide for selecting vocal solo literature influence the future practice of music selection for the studio voice teacher and the choral music director? The author researches the process and practice of selecting solo vocal literature by private studio teachers, choral directors and collegiate specialists teaching voice. The study included voice and literature research from the VoiceCare Network entitled Bodymind and Voice: Foundations of Voice Education. Additionally two vocal literature guides were compared and contrasted: The Minnesota Music Teacher's Association (MMTA) and the National Association Teacher's of Singing (NATS). Data was collected and summarized through interviews and surveys from private voice teachers, choral directors and collegiate voice specialists. The best research data was combined to create a sample vocal literature guide for 15 and 16 year old students.
