Abstract
The question asked in this case study is how can a coordinated team approach integrating athletes, parents, coaches, and faculty members develop in the student athlete a sense of accomplishment in the classroom? The study involved the development of an academic program called Rebel Power that assisted student athletes during the winter sports season. A learning community was established to develop self-esteem and confidence in the student. After school study sessions, academic strategies, peer groups, and academic assessment forms were major points of emphasis in the program. Field notes, surveys, and interviews were used to evaluate the program's strengths and weaknesses. The Rebel Power program was successful in raising self-esteem, leadership skills, and grades during the ten week study.
