Abstract
The research question addressed in this project centered on developing student assessments, organization, and literature circle lessons to complement an existing reading-writing basal model. The main motivation behind the creation of this project was the need to inspire student to become life-long readers and writers, while providing a weekly opportunity for parent volunteerism reflective of parent talent available. Lessons target figurative language, choice, fluency, comprehension, discussion skills, questioning techniques, and grammar. To validate and develop the instructional plan, qualitative research was conducted on fourth through eighth graders using the literature of Merriam, S.B. (1998). Reis, S. M., & Fogarty, E. A. (2006). Tomlinson, C.A.& McTighe, J. (2006). Wiggins, G., & McTighe, J. (1998). and Hasbrouck, J. & Tindal, G., (2005).
