Abstract
This capstone addresses the question: what are effective instructional strategies for developing leadership in gifted, elementary students through intercultural competence? The research in the fields of gifted education, intercultural competence and curriculum design complement each other and establish valid evidence for preparing students for a culturally pluralistic world. The author reflects on her journey as an educator and artist. She is largely influenced by her personal trip around the world, the recent work on intercultural competence of Koester and Lustig and the combined research of leading experts in gifted education and curriculum design. She embarks and successfully completes a foundation curriculum focused on a global citizenship study for gifted students in fourth and fifth grade.
