Abstract
This capstone answers the question, what are effective activities to use for differentiated learning centers to help first grade readers, specifically in sight words and phonetics? This is answered by compiling top research in the field of sight words, word families, learning centers, and differentiation in the first grade classroom. This capstone also serves as a 20 week curriculum focusing on two learning centers, specifically sight words and word families. At each learning center, three different activities are provided for the different reading levels: emergent, early, and transitional. An easy-to-use manual is provided for the educator who hopes to differentiate their first grade classroom.
