Abstract
My case study and following paper resulted from my desire to network with my colleagues and strengthen my department. Creating a Professional Learning Community (PLC) allows teachers time to dialogue, share experiences, knowledge, and ultimately leads to best practice methodologies. The review of literature provided evidence to the importance of creating Professional Learning Communities to improve teacher practice and student learning. Books written by Robert DuFour and Richard Eaker were essential in gaining information on creating Professional Learning Communities. The research processes also strengthen my understanding of the Annenberg Protocol, Guided Conversation, and Socratic Cafe_. Physical education teachers in our district were invited to be a part of a Professional Learning Community that met for seven morning meetings. Results indicated that teachers would like to continue our Professional Learning Community. Our district is considering implementing PLC's during our staff development days this school year.
