Abstract
The research question addressed is, how can I create a home to school collaborative model that will increase parental involvement? This capstone highlights a teacher's attempts to increase the parental involvement in her special education classroom. The attempts included increasing two-way communication, providing web based home-learning activities, and offering a math training video to parents. Through surveys and feedback forms, the parents of her students provided feedback as to their opinion about the increase collaboration attempts and it's affects on their children's education. The author referenced her personal and professional experiences, as well as research literature. Her research literature highlighted the definition of parental involvement, the barriers that prevent it, the benefits of it, factors that promote it, and strategies to increase parental involvement. The study resulted in positive feedback from parents and an increase in the use of the web based home-learning activities.
