Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop an effective social studies curriculum for Chinese immersion kindergarten students in an urban Chinese immersion program. I began by reflecting on my personal and professional rationale for doing this study, and expanded my knowledge of immersion education, social studies education, language learning, early childhood education, culturally relevant pedagogy, as well as methods of curriculum design, through a literature review. By studying the MN state standards, school district expectations and objective situations in my classroom, I developed a twelve-unit social studies curriculum for my Chinese immersion classroom. I aimed to make it practical and meaningful in my classroom, but also hope it can be adopted by other teachers, both in and outside of my school.
