Abstract
The research question addressed is, how can teachers improve the science performance and skills of diverse elementary students? The study focused on why science instruction is important in our global economy and what teachers can do to promote better understanding of science content with diverse elementary students. Best practices and brain research were explored to assist teachers with diverse populations of students. During the research, discoveries surrounding poverty and its effect on the achievement gap became a major theme. The action research conducted in a third grade classroom further confirmed the obstacles involved when teaching diverse students. The conclusion of this research is that there are strategies teachers can implement to improve the science performance and skills of all students.
