Abstract
The research questions addressed in this capstone are: 1) Does participating in geocaching activities lead to participation in other types of outdoor activities? For example, does a person that participates in geocaching take up fishing, camping, hiking, etc.? 2) Does participating in geocaching activities increase your environmental stewardship? The methodology to answer the questions included self-reported research survey completed by people that read the forum page of various geocaching organizations, a geocaching podcast show, and have liked the geocaching Facebook page. Literature both supporting and refuting the questions are presented along with the data collected during the research study. Conclusions from the study indicate a large percentage of geocachers do partake in other outdoor activities after beginning to participate in the activity of geocaching and claim to have increased their environmental stewardship.
