Abstract
The research question address in this capstone is: How prepared are Minnesota's nonprofit science, nature and environmental learning centers to handle an executive transition? The methodology to answer the question was an online survey sent out to executive directors of such organizations. Literature supporting the need for a sound transition plan and integral components for a successful executive transition are presented along with the numerical data collected during the research study. Two conclusions can be found from this study: 1) Minnesota's science, nature and environmental learning centers are well prepared for an executive transition in several necessary areas 2) Minnesota's science, nature and environmental learning centers are ill prepared for an executive transition in several necessary areas also. Due to these findings it is not possible to say that overall, Minnesota's nonprofit science, nature and environmental learning centers are either well prepared or unprepared to handle an executive transition.
