Abstract

In late September of 1976 the sky over the German capital of Berlin suddenly, and without warning, turned tangerine. The oddities continued as the Berliners found that no planes, trains, cars, animals, people, not even radio waves could get in or out of the city. It was the most thorough quarantine ever established. Stranger still was the disappearance of the city’s now-famous Wall.
