Abstract
This paper explored research-based best practices in interdisciplinary instruction, and in particular on how those practices may be applied in a second grade setting. Building on his experience with curriculum development, the author followed research-based practices in order to develop an integrated thematic unit of study, implemented that unit, and reflected on its effectiveness. While student success was evident during this unit, there were also many areas that could have been improved in order to increase the effectiveness of the unit. The author found the process of curriculum development and reflection to be helpful.
