Abstract

The research question addressed in this project was, how does supplementing an 11th grade social studies unit with text sets impact student engagement and achievement? The motivating factor for this capstone was to find readings that engage students while increasing academic achievement. This capstone documents one teacher's creation of a text set unit for a high school American History class. The author develops a daily lesson for a unit on World War II while incorporating readings to teach students about this topic. He describes reading activities and alternative readings to reach all of his students.
