What effect will the use of debate/cooperative learning strategies have on engagement and assessment of students in AP psychology?
I sought to find ways of raising the engagement level of my AP Psychology students as well as improving their AP Exam scores. To do that, I researched the effects of using debate/discussion and cooperative learning as instructional strategies in my classroom. I incorporated one debate or discussion and one cooperative learning activity/assignment into each of my AP Psychology units during the course of the research. I collected data using a personal journal of observation, student surveys completed by the participants and the 2011 AP Psychology Exam scores of my participants. The results showed improvement in both student engagement and students' AP Exam scores.
