Course Description
This discussion-based course will introduce students to the critical application of philosophical theory to a number of significant ongoing ethical debates and dilemmas in contemporary society. Topics will include: the rights of non-human animals, world poverty and moral obligation, euthanasia and human dignity, and the ethics of bioengineering and genetic enhancement. Throughout the course, we will focus on both the philosophical arguments that structure these contemporary ethical debates as well as the status of current laws and societal beliefs that inform them.
