The student will become familiar with the Spanish used in creating dialogue, character and plot development. In addition, the student will analyze each dramatic work’s political and social contexts in terms of preventing and exposing human right violations. As part of the assignment (reading and writing activities), the student will write a short play around a social and/or political issue related to the Spanish-speaking world. By the end of the course, the student will have basic knowledge of play writing, well-known Latin-American playwrights, some significant theater groups, and the impact these groups had on Latin-American theater development and human rights movements.
