Course Description

Special Topics: Runestone: Introduction to Literary Publishing – Fiction Prerequisite: WRIT 3120 and WRIT 3220 (Can take WRIT 3220 concurrently) or instructor's approval This course may be taken more than once, though priority will be given to students who’ve not yet taken it. In this dynamic, hands-on class, students will read, analyze, discuss, and select submissions as they help create the next issue of Runestone, the nation’s first online national undergraduate literary magazine. Along the way, students will learn the history of the mission-driven independent literary journal and its cultural role of discovering new voices; study journals publishing today and craft essays that illuminate the contemporary conversation about their genre; complete short writing exercises; and revise and prepare one manuscript to send to another national undergraduate review.
