Course Description
TOPICS: Writing for Young Adults (YA) M-R, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm Writing for young adults is more than just writing for adults "lite." Young adults are neither here nor there, neither child nor adult. Writing for this age group, then, requires delicacy, a strong love of this type of literature, and a grasp of writing craft that can speak to this audience. In this class, we will read and deconstruct the writing craft of current and past young adult novels; we will explore what makes young adult literature different than other types; and we will begin the journey into writing for this audience, allowing for experimentation and the crafting of a body of work.
