Course Description
Description: This First-year Seminar will examine the relationships between physical activity, health and human performance. Here is a partial list of the topics to be explored: History and Current Status of Physical Activity and Health; Age, Sex and Ethnic Differences; Acute and Chronic Effects of Physical Activity on the Human Organism; Responses of the Liver, Kidney, and Other Organs and Tissues to Regular Physical Activity; Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Responses to Physical Activity; Measures For Assessing Fitness and Health; The Ethical Use of Human Subjects in Research; Contributions from Sport Science Research to Health; and Career Opportunities in the Health Sciences. The content of this course is meant prepare students for future studies in the health sciences. Some examples include medicine, physical and occupational therapy, nutrition, and research. It is highly recommended that students who select this First-year Seminar have an established record of excellence in math and science.
