Abstract

The research question addressed in this article is how can we educate both teachers and students about multiculturalism in the rural environment through professional development and within the classroom. The project includes a literary review and a professional development session designed for teachers working in rural school districts. The literary review is divided into three sections: the first explaining the necessity of multiculturalism within the rural environment, next examining how teachers best include this discipline within their classrooms daily, and ending with how to encourage this mindset with students themselves. This article also includes many resources meant to help teachers who are hoping to integrate more multicultural education into their lessons. The goal of this project is to make all teachers understand the importance of multiculturalism, regardless of location, and to give them the tools to do so through a professional development session.
