What is a merit pay program/model that meets the needs of the primary stakeholders: the teachers?
Merit pay is steadily finding its way into public education. Research supports positive effects from merit pay in education. This capstone summarizes and analyzes the various important elements that make up various merit pay plans from throughout the country. Professional development, enhanced evaluation, goal setting and skill building, and options for teacher leadership emerge as essential elements to most merit pay programs. The capstone proposes a merit pay program that builds upon these four essential elements to meet the professional needs of teachers as they try to provide the highest quality instruction for their students.
