Abstract

This capstone set forth to research more about the history of the written Hmong language and the linguistic features of the Hmong Romanized Phonetic Alphabet (RPA) in order to answer the research inquiry: what is a Hmong curriculum for Hmong adult learners learning in a Christian church setting comprised of? A review of the literature showed that the RPA was developed by missionaries working in Southeast Asia, and that it is quite a complex language. Second language acquisition theory and reading models were taken under consideration during the curriculum development. In general, there are many components to writing a curriculum and factors that need to be considered in order to develop an effective curriculum
