Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was: What is the impact parental mental illness has on students? More importantly, what are strategies teachers and parents can use to help students in these situations? This Capstone defines key terms such as mental illness and depression as well as explains the adverse effects that a parental mental illness can have on a child inside the home. Using document analysis as the research method, a list of materials and resources teachers can use was created this is intended to aid a student's potential suffering whilst dealing with a parental mental illness, specifically depression. To do this, several resources were found as future reference materials that can be given to family members in this situation, specifically focusing on helping a young child maneuver through the possible negative impacts that occur when a parent is suffering from depression.
