Abstract
The research question addressed in this study is how teachers in an urban setting describe the importance of traditional literature. The study explores the use of traditional literature in a high school setting with significant minority populations. The study compares the benefits and drawbacks of teaching traditional literature with the benefits and drawbacks of teaching multicultural and contemporary literature. The author uses surveys and interviews to gather teachers' opinions about types of literature to use in an urban setting.
