Abstract

The research question addressed what Minnesota urban high schools are doing to raise Black students' achievement scores on the MCA II. The capstone overviews Black students' scores on standardized tests, characteristics of successful math curricula for Black students, and overviews successful academic support programs for Black students. The author interviewed three urban high school math department chairs and investigated what type of curricula they use, what type of academic support programs were offered as well as what specific MCA II preparations were used.
