Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the perceived impact of a secondary literacy coach at one urban high school. A qualitative research design was used to examine administrators', teachers', and one literacy coach's perceptions around four main themes: defining the role identifying primary tasks assessing the impact in the school and distinguishing the future role for secondary literacy coaches. The data collection tools for this study included narrative inquiry, individual interviews, and group interviews. The main findings were that administrators and teachers perceived a need for literacy coaches at the secondary level, specifically the individualization of coaching. These findings have implications for secondary literacy coaches and from these practical recommendations are made.
