Abstract

The research question addressed is, how have literacy trends impacted teacher preparation and delivery. This capstone looks at the changing definition of literacy, the value of early literacy exposure, teacher preparation and classroom instruction of three generations of teachers and the increased involvement of the government. The authors intent was to uncover what differences in literacy education occurred from the 1940's to current that allowed her to have stronger literacy skills than her father, who was considered illiterate at one time.
