Literacy coaching: reflecting on interactions with a middle school colleague
This capstone studies the relationship between a literacy coach and a middle school colleague. Using action qualitative research, this capstone studies the role of the literacy coach, multiple functions of a literacy coach and the key components of effective literacy coaching. Closely examining the classroom observation cycle, the literacy coach carries out a pre-conference with the teacher to understand the objective of the lesson, observes the lesson and holds a post conference with the teacher to carefully reflect on the effectiveness of the lesson. The literacy coach also reflects on the effectiveness of the coaching session. This capstone captures the coach and colleague's thoughts as this cycle takes place. Ultimately this capstone is a guide for future literacy coaches and presents valuable research to the ever changing career of literacy coaches in the 21st century.
