Abstract

How does the teaching of fluency through guided reading effect struggling readers, researched guided reading, fluency, and struggling readers. Four fifth grade students were selected to receive intensive fluency lessons for three weeks to see if they made gains during that time. As a side note, the student's self-esteem was also measured before and after the three weeks and compared to the rest of the class. Steady gains were made in the fluency of all four students and in the self-esteem of the study group.
