Abstract

The research question addressed in this project was, how does a charter elementary school using responsive classroom approach develop compatible behavior policies within a school-wide guide? This capstone examines the impact of the Responsive Classroom approach within the classroom and hears directly from teachers through a survey format what practices they implemented and how effective the practices were with students in their classes. The survey results indicate that although teachers were trying to implement Responsive Classroom with fidelity there were large inconsistencies in the RC practice among teachers. It became clear there were parts of the RC practice that were more challenging to implement and maintain particularly in areas of discipline and behavior. The information gathered from the survey was used to help inform the development of a school-wide guide with a Responsive Classroom approach.
