Abstract

The motivating factor for the capstone was influenced by a personal experience with a nephew diagnosed with apraxia and the effects the diagnosis had on the family. To discover the answers to the capstone question an extensive literature review was done, an interview was conducted with a speech pathologist, and a survey was sent to family members of children with apraxia. There are several ways to develop or maintain a healthy family structure with an apraxic child. A few elements include learning as much as possible about the diagnosis, advocating for the best services, and joining a support group.
