How does family involvement at home affect a child's early literacy development in a preschool setting?
I have worked in a child care setting for the past ten years. During that period, there have been numerous occasions when I wondered what activities parents did at home with their children to encourage early literacy development. It was not until my son entered Kindergarten, that this really hit home. Was what I had been doing at home enough to prepare him for formal schooling? These reasons led me down the path to write my capstone on parent involvement and early literacy development. Over the last three years I have had the opportunity to really get to know the families who participated in my study. The emotional journey through this was well worth the final outcome I hope those who read this will benefit from it as much as I have.
