Abstract
Through research of current literature and action research in a first grade classroom, the topic how does physical exercise improve the focus and learning of first grade students was examined. Although much research relates to children with ADHD, the emphasis of this study is to determine the effects on a self-contained first grade classroom. On fifteen separate days, children's off-task behaviors were tracked and data was collected before and after physical activity. Trends were analyzed to determine the effect of aerobic exercise on off-task behaviors. At the conclusion of the experiment, the author concludes that regular physical exercise has a profound impact on increasing on-task behaviors in first grade students.
