Abstract
The research question addressed is, what are school stressors reported by students in a junior high school setting and what implications does this information have for my school nursing practice? The author describes personal and professional nursing experiences working with people from different cultures in different settings and how she became interested in this topic. The literature review and research integrates information around stress and its relationship with physical and mental health, stress and adolescence, school stress and students of color. The school nursing implications of stress its impact on junior high students of color is also addressed. Key influences include colleagues, diversity training, adolescent students of color, and authors such as Tatum, Seyle, Signleton, and Walsh. The research method was a conversation/interview with students and parents of color and professionals employed in the junior high school setting.
