Abstract
The research question addressed in this project was, how can minilessons be created to support the development of reading comprehension for primary grade readers? It is the creation of three units of study pertaining to specific reading comprehension strategies. The units include making connections, visualizing, and drawing inferences/predicting and were designed to be developmentally appropriate for early readers. Each unit contains roughly 15 minilessons to be implemented in a Reader’s Workshop model. This project relied heavily on the integration of research conducted by Lucy Calkins (2001) and Debbie Miller (2002).
